Founder's Note

From Mohit, founder of Chau Foods

Hi, I am Mohit from Chau Foods. My grandmother made bajra roti every winter with white butter and gur, and nobody called it health food back then. If you want to bring millets back, start small. One jowar roti at dinner is enough to begin, and it is easier to stick to than a full diet change.

Why Millets Are Back

Millets are hardy grains that grew across India long before rice and wheat took over. They are coming back because most of them have more fibre and minerals than polished rice, and they suit people trying to eat less refined food.

What Each Millet Is Best For

Ragi: calcium. Good for people who do not eat much dairy, and gentle enough for children. More in our ragi benefits guide.

Jowar: the easiest swap for wheat. Mild taste, makes soft bhakri and rotis, and suits everyday use. It is also naturally gluten free.

Bajra: iron and warmth. A winter staple in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana, often eaten with ghee and jaggery. It is heavier, so many people eat it mainly in the colder months.

Millets and Diabetes or Weight Loss

All three have more fibre than polished rice, which slows digestion and keeps you full. That can help with blood sugar and portion control. But millets still contain carbohydrates, so a big plate of millet is still a big plate. Swap, do not pile on.
